"Well, that's objectively true," he pointed out breezily. "In fact, Doc actually warns anyone that stays here so they aren't... alarmed. I will let him know that you... already know."

He fidgeted with his cup for a moment, looking down into it like there were any answers to be found.

"I tried not to sleep at all when I first got here," he admitted. "I huddled in a corner of the library because nobody else was out there in town at night. If I did fall asleep, nobody would hear me. I couldn't hurt anyone. Then... some things happened and... Raylan told me there was going to be a gathering at the house he shared with Doc. They'd made a batch of moonshine and were offering to share with anyone who wanted it. I don't know that I did. Want it. But I was deep in withdrawal from my medication and I needed to take the edge off somehow. I took... too much of the edge off. I fell asleep on the floor of their sunroom. Unrestrained.
