Important. That was a word that didn't mean to Wynonna what it normally meant to others. Then again, the word wasn't ever used with her in the manner in which he said it. No, it was always 'Wynonna, you need to do this, it's important. Wynonna, think, it's important you remember. Wynonna, you know what you have to do...' Everything and everyone mattered more because she was the one who was responsible for her sister's presumed death. She killed her father. She was the crazy one who saw demons.

No one gets to be important after doing all that stuff. Even being the Earp heir is about protecting the most important thing of all - the human lives in Purgatory.

At first, she expects him to say something insensitive, a drinking partner, someone who inadvertently left a means of escape or the great great granddaughter of his best friend who he hooked up with a time or two. That's probably what she would have answered with if she was honest. It was the smart answer to keep a person at arm's length, right?

Her smile slips and her eyes drop and all she can do is nod. There's a painfully awkward silence before she shifts back to face forward and grab her drink, downing the rest in one swallow.

What was she going to do with that?
